-Urban Culture Week- (Day 4 to 6)
Day 4 kicked off with
round two of the Urban Culture Week (Last three days). At 5PM Professional Bboy
Photographer, Nika Kramer gave a lecture about the basic functions of a DSLR
camera. That day was more focused on the lightings of pictures and how lighting
can ruin a good picture.
Later that night (9PM), Movie
night kicked off with a couple of episodes of the RedBull TV series ‘Break ‘n
reality’. The series is about 3 world famous Bboys who show everyone where they
grew up, and what the life was like as a Bboy in that place.
Day 5 was another busy day
with four workshops that took place, At 5PM there was the Event and Action
Photography workshop with Nika Kramer, She focused more on photo editing, and
how to make your photos stand out.
Later
at 6PM there was a DJ Workshop with Dutch DJ, Tyrone Van Der Meer a.k.a.
DJ Mr Tee, He showed the workshop participants about beat making and how to
sync two tracks, With the DJ workshop, he also briefed about the history of
DJing, How DJing was different back in his day. Also how DJing will be
different 30-40 years from now.
Also at 6PM there was a girls
only ‘Inspiring Girls’ talk with May Alqasim, she talked to the girls taking
part in the lecture, she gave them tips on how to do stuff as a girl. She also
performed her song on the keyboard.
Later that night at 9PM, it was
another movie night with ‘The Art of Rap’ showing, This was a Documentary type
movie that showed how rapping has changed over the years and it featured many
many world famous Rappers like Eminem, Jay-z, Xzhibit etc.
Day 6 (Last day) kicked
off with five workshops taking place that day. At 5PM there was an Event and
Action Photography workshop at the Fisherman’s Village in Muharraq, Nika Kramer
and the workshop participants took photos of the Bboy Judges, Bboy Lil G, Bboy
Wingz and Bboy Pelezinho.
At 6PM DJ OutlaW had a workshop
and lecture on ‘Independent Artist 101’ where he talked about how to become a
successful artist in the scene, he talked about the pros and cons in the
process of becoming an artist, he showed them the important points to keep in
mind while becoming an artist, he also told them to be ready at all times
otherwise the opportunity will go away.
At 7PM there was a Q&A talk
show with Tamer URS, a Dubai based promoter. Also the host of the BC One competition
the next day.
And finally at 8PM there was the
Bahrain Cypher pre-qualifier which had over thirty Bboys looking to make their
spot in the Last 16s. At the end, Tamer announced the last 16 names who will be
competing for the top spot the next day.
That
wraps up the Urban Culture Week, What a week it was.. I wanna thank the Red
Bull Bahrain team for giving me the opportunity to cover this event as a local blogger, so a
shoutout to them.. Also wanted to thank Nika Kramer, I’ve learnt a lot in the
space of 4-5 days that I’m sure I wouldn’t have learnt on my own in the space
of months.. She’s a great, kind person who deserves all the credit in the world
for her work.
